It was in the year of our Lord, 2018, and my grades were in need of resurrection. But I was in conversation with a friend who said to me, ‘You need to take your writing seriously.’
That wasn’t my priority. All I wanted was to revive my grades and graduate without an extra year. I already had a 2.8 CGPA for the third time in a row, and the future wasn’t looking bright.
But she kept pushing, and I eventually gave in. My first serious gig was writing blog posts. I was still worried about my grades, but at least I was making progress, and I found joy in writing.
Then one evening, I sought advice on how to improve my grades. The leader I’d met said, ‘That skill you have, hone it because that’s what you’ll be known for.’
That wasn’t the answer I expected, but it was the push I needed.
That moment birthed Kemi Writes.
